Global Citizen Festival is expanding with a new concert in South Africa.
Beyonce, Jay Z and Ed Sheeran will headline the event, called Mandela 100 to mark a century since Nelson Mandela’s birth. They’ll be joined on stage by Pharrell and Chris Martin, Eddie Vedder, Usher and so many more iconic acts.
As is the case with New York’s Global Citizen Festival, tickets for Mandela 100 won’t be for sale. Instead, those hoping to attend can earn tickets through advocacy and social justice work.

This year’s campaign aims to raise $1 billion (£754.8m) to use for ‘ending hunger and increasing access to good nutrition, ending neglected tropical diseases, reducing HIV transmission rates, ensuring every child receives a quality education, reforming and repealing sexist laws, providing funding for women’s health and repealing sexist laws, providing funding for women’s health and family planning, and ensuring access to clean water and safe sanitation world wide’.
How to get tickets for Global Citizen Festival
Tickets to Global Citizen Festival are always earned. Speaking on their ticketing policy, CEO Hugh Evans said: ‘You have to play your part in giving back to society for six months.’
According to EWN, 100,000 tickets will be made available. About 70,000 of them will be free to earn.
To get started, download the Global Citizen app or visit their website. Invited friends and family to join you to earn more points.
Over the course of several weeks you’ll be tasked with doing research and reading up on different issues. Then, on August 21, 2018, you’ll have to take action, sharing social media updates about what you’ve learned.
The Mandela 100 campaign will focus on six different goals. Participants can select one or all six to help make a difference. The campaigns are ending poverty, zero hunger, good health and well being, quality education, gender equality, clean water and sanitation.
