'I was advised not to show up to work as I was in the hospital': Mel B shares harrowing details about alleged 'abuse' from ex Stephen Belafonte documented in explosive memoir

Mel B has accused her ex-husband, Stephen Belafonte of years of emotional and physical abuse in her new controversial autobiography, titled Brutally Honest.

Now Melanie Brown, 43, has shared harrowing details about how she managed to cope with work commitments amid the alleged 'abuse' from her former partner.

During an appearance on The Project on Wednesday, Mel B explained she was advised not to show up to work during the height of the alleged abuse, which reportedly coincided with her tenure on reality television show, UK X Factor.

'I was advised not to show up to work because I was in the hospital but the show must go on so many levels for me,' she told the Channel Ten panel.

'Because I am the breadwinner - I was then and I still am now for my family. I'm the one who puts the roof over our heads, I'm the one who has to have the food on the table,' she added.

Mel B continued to delve deeper into the alleged abuse and revealed work was her 'saviour' throughout the purported ordeal.

'So for me my work was my saviour and it's my income so I couldn't just stop and just pretend that my work didn't exist and fire myself.'

'I was dealing with so many things...I was living a lie at home that nobody knew about and then my work on TV.'

She continued: 'And in a weird way work was actually my saviour because my ex couldn't come to work with me...it was me on camera, it was me that they wanted to see not my ex-husband.'

Melanie went on to claim it took her four years to get out of her ten-year marriage with Stephen

She described herself as feeling 'trapped' before she could muster up the courage to leave.

'I'm one of the lucky ones. Not many of these situations end happy. Somebody ends up committing suicide, or getting killed by their significant other so I'm actually one of the ones that got out and survived.

The singer then proclaimed that she has started her 'healing process' with a  bang- namely the upcoming Spice Girls reunion.

Panellist, Gorgi Coghlan also quizzed Mel B about whether she was tempted to exclude some of the 'ugly' parts from her explosive memoir.

Melanie confessed that she initially didn't want to let anyone read the tome.

However, she was eventually convinced to release the book by her mother, daughter and a handful of friends who had witnessed the alleged 'abuse'.

She continued: 'I just thought to myself - this is therapeutic and healing for me and also I want to send a message to other women and to men that this has to stop and you're not alone.'
