Menudo singer Anthony Galindo Ibarra is dead at 41 ... following suicide attempt six days earlier

One-time Menudo singer Anthony Galindo Ibarra died Saturday at the age of 41 following suicide attempt, according to his family.

Ibarra, who was known as as 'El Papi Joe,' attempted to take his own life on September 27, and lived for six days after, his relatives said in a statement.

'It is with deep pain that we want to inform you that today, Saturday, October 3, at 3:43 in the afternoon, our dear Anthony Galindo has passed away after six days where the doctors did what was humanly possible to save his life,' the family said.

They added that they 'agreed to the request to donate his organs, so that in the moment he ceased to exist, he could help other people save their lives.'

The family said, 'We thank you for all the prayers and support in these difficult times for our family and for so many people who had the opportunity to meet him personally and as an artist.

'In the coming days, we will inform you of the details of the funeral home where we will be giving the last goodbyes together with all those who wish to say goodbye to our dear Anthony, who will forever leave a beautiful mark on our hearts.'

The singer's family said that depression Ibarra was dealing with was 'exacerbated by the pandemic and resulted in the trigger for this drastic and unfortunate decision.'

Ibarra joined the Puerto Rico boy band Menudo in 1995 and stayed until it ended. Ibarra had also performed in the bands MDO and Kumbia Kings, Billboard reported.

Menudo, which a young Ricky Martin was a part of, sold more than 20 million records internationally, and in 1983 had a toy line from Multi-Toys Corp.

The singer is survived by wife Dayana Maya and daughter Elizabeth Michelle.
