Glastonbury bosses drop major hints about 2024 headliners - confirming the legendary slot will be female

Glastonbury bosses have dropped some major hints about the 2024 headliners, just days before tickets go on sale.

Emily Eavis, who is Glastonbury Festivals co-organiser, has confirmed the legendary slot will be filled by a woman.

She revealed headliners for the festival haven't been finalised yet, but hints that a big American artist called last week to say they're available - after reports revealed Madonna is in advanced talks to take to the Pyramid stage in the summer.

Speaking on Sidetracked with Annie Macmanus and Nick Grimshaw on BBC Sounds, Emily said: '2024 is still a little up in the air… And I thought it was kind of taking shape and then last week I just got a call, and this is what happens if you wait a little longer, because quite often we'll be booked up from July. 

'This year we're holding out for a little bit longer and last week I got a call from a really big American artist saying this person's around next year, and I was like oh my God, this is incredible, thank God we held the slot.'

Emily also responded to criticism surrounding last year's all male headliners, hinting that there might be two female headliners in 2024 and confirms the Sunday legend slot will be female.

It was recently reported that Glastonbury and Coachella Festival bosses are competing to secure Dua Lipa as their headliner next summer.

Madonna is also in the running to headline the festival next June in Worthy Farm in Somerset.

She said: 'I've always been really passionate about gender split [on festival line ups] and I think actually, our problem was that I'd been so outspoken about it that having a year where there wasn't a female sent people a bit mad, or some people. 

'And actually we did have a female, she pulled out and we replaced them with Guns (N' Roses) on the Saturday… But everyone who knows, knows that it's top of my list. I'm always trying to make it the most balanced, diverse bill. 

'It is difficult with female artists because there aren't enough headliners. But we're also creating them. We're putting the bands and female artists on smaller stages and bringing them through all the time so I feel like the pool is going to be bigger soon. 

'And who knows next year we might get two… And certainly I can say that the legend is female.'

Glastonbury 2024 will take place from 26 to 30 June and tickets go on sale on Sunday 5 November.

However successfully purchasing tickets for the festival is no easy feet, and it takes a carefully curated plan to achieve the precious tickets.

Host Annie asked: 'What do you do when the tickets go on sale? Do you take to your bed? What happens?

Emily replied: 'I'm normally here in the office with the team here, and we're in constant communication. 

'It's very… I'm so relieved when it's over and it's gone without issues. It's really hard with that volume of people.

'One of the main issues is that each household has about seven devices on the case, so it's really intense the amount of people trying and the amount of devices trying. But if everyone has one device per household, it just makes it much smoother.'

Tickets will cost £355 plus a £5 booking fee, and those lucky enough to secure tickets will only need to pay a £75 deposit.

The remaining balance will be paid in the first week of April 2024. 

Last June revellers enjoyed the likes of Arctic Monkeys, Guns N' Roses and Elton John, yet Emily faced backlash after no female headliner made the lineup.

She explained at the time: 'We did have a female headliner, and she unfortunately had to pull out... it changes all the time.

'But next year it's looking like we've got two female headliners, so fingers crossed.'

Taylor Swift was thought to have pulled out over a change in plans as he tour dates seemed to coincide perfectly with Glastonbury at the time.
