A pedestrian in her 20s who was out on a run was killed when she was hit by a car in North Hollywood on Friday night, Aug. 16, police and her loved ones said.

A Toyota Corolla struck the woman, identified by her family as Leyda Medina, while she was in a marked crosswalk at the intersection of Victory Boulevard and Beck Avenue around 7 p.m., according to an LAPD news release.

“Leyda was a loving wife, daughter, sister, tia, and friend. Her loss will be felt deeply by many,” Medina’s loved ones wrote on GoFundMe.

The driver, described by LAPD as in his 50s, continued driving westward without stopping, police said. The Corolla was later discovered abandoned on the curb of Victory Avenue east of Troost Avenue.

Medina was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

LAPD noted in its release that a city program allows a reward of up to $50,000 to be given for information leading to a hit-and-run offender’s I.D., apprehension and conviction.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact LAPD Valley Traffic Detective Ramirez at 818-644-8028 or Officer Ruiz at 818-644-8026.
