DONALD EDWARD JACQUES

WILLIAMSBURG – Donald Edward Jacques, 79, died Monday, October 16, 2006 at his daughter’s home. A native of Mill City, PA, he lived on the Peninsula for 30 years before moving to Florida, having resided there for the past 20 years. Donald retired from the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant from Fort. Eustis in 1969 with 25 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Joyce Jacques; his son, Stephen Oden Jacques and great-grandson, Cody James Hoffman. Mr. Jacques is survived by two daughters, Sherrill Croft of Plantation, Fla., and Crystal Ward of Williamsburg; his sister, Lillian Rayno of Mill City, Pa.; four granddaughters, two great-grandsons and his great-granddaughter.

Services will be private. Weymouth Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

LOUISE JONES

NEW YORK – Mrs. Louise Jones, 93, born in Richmond, Va. to the late Daniel and Betty Harris departed this life on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2006 at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y.

Louise was a member of Mt. Moriah RZUA Church for over 50 years and was also the “Mother” of the Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James H. Jones; brother, Walter; sister, Edmonia; daughter, Mildred Baker; grandson, George Baker and granddaughter, Cheryl Baker. Louise leaves to mourn her sister-in-la; Mattie Mae Jones; brother-in-law, TJ Jones; five grandchildren, Frances (Augustine) Jurry, Bette (Althelston) Kelson, Roger (Qunice) Baker, Theodore and James Baker; seven great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren; special friends, Bertie Johnson, Clidas Jackson, Liz Stamps and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21 at Mt. Moriah RZUA Church. Viewing will be held from noon until 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20 at the funeral home and two hours prior at the church. Interment will take place at Hampton Memorial Gardens immediately following the service.

SUFFOLK – Michael Angelo Darden, 45, died Oct. 16, 2006. Funeral services will be held noon Friday, Oct. 20 at Piney Grove Baptist Church Interment will be in Meadowbrook Memorial Gardens. SADIE DONEGAN PATTERSON

STAUNTON – Sadie Donegan Patterson, 86, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006.

She was born in Newport News, Va. on July 6, 1920, the daughter of the late Sadie Shell Sutton and Harry Bagley Sutton.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dallas Melvin Patterson, Sr. on April 8, 2004.

She is survived by her son, Dallas Patterson, Jr. and his wife, Diane of Severna Park, Md.; daughter, Sadie Peters and her husband, Tom of Staunton; son, Richard Patterson and his wife, Debbie of Herndon, Va.

A graveside service will be conducted 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 at Sherando United Methodist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Ed Covert.

JAMES H. SAUNDERS SR.

WAVERLY – Elder James H. Saunders, Sr. of 6671 Carsley Road, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2006 at MCV Hospital, Richmond.

He was a native of Spring Grove and the son of the late James E. and Virginia Saunders.

He was the pastor of Church of All Nations, Spring Grove, where he had pastored for 17 years. He worked in the Newport News shipyard for 30 years. He was a faithful worker in the Virginia State Council for 22 years, working on many different committees.

He is survived by wife, Evangelist Marie H. Saunters of Waverly; four children, Edith E. Edwards (James) , Lawrence B. Saunders (Doris), all of Surry, Rex R. Saunders (Gwendolyn) of Waverly and Tonya M. Vaughan of Richmond; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two sisters, Florence R. Brown (George) and Marie H. Blount (John), all of Spring Grove; brother, Rufus E. Saunders (Lula) of Surry; mother-in-law, Annie M. Holmes of Surry; eight sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law; daughter-in-law, Joyce Saunders of Richmond; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends among them devoted friends, Patricia Byrd and Barbara Towns.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at Church of All Nations, Spring Grove, with Bishop Clarence Moore presiding. Interment will be in the church cemetery. The remains will lie in state at the church on Saturday from 11 a.m. until the hour of service. Relatives and friends will assemble at the residence, 6671 Carsley Road, Waverly at noon. JAMES R. VIRDEN

WINDSOR – James R. Virden, 54, father of Sheena, Betty Ann and Jermaine Virden and a devoted companion, Wilhemnia Goodwin, died Saturday Oct. 14, 2006. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday Oct. 21 at Shivers Funeral Chapel, Smithfield. Professional Services entrusted to Shivers Funeral Chapel.

FRANK LEE WINNEGAN

SMITHFIELD – Frank Lee Winnegan, affectionately known as “Shag” was born on August 11, 1934 in Isle of Wight County. On Tuesday Oct. 17, 2006, Shag was called to Eternal rest at Riverside Regional Medical Center, Newport News, after fighting a good fight and finishing the course.

Shag was preceded in death by his parents, Pearl and Harvey Winnegan; a sister, Dorothy W. Harris; a brother, Waverly Lee Winnegan.

His legacy of love will be cherished by his sister, Florine W. Thompson of Smithfield; brother-in-law, John A Harris of Smithfield; a devoted niece, Hilda T. Wilson (Ray) and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A memorial service will be held at noon Friday, Oct. 20, 2006 at Pretlow & Chapman Funeral Home. Interment will be in Emmanuel Baptist Church Cemetery
