A fussy bloke has revealed that he splashed out an additional £300 for an extra suitcase crammed with Pot Noodles, crisps and sausages to savour 'good old-fashioned English' grub abroad.

Lorry driver trainer John Phillips, 40, from Stoke, did this despite shelling out £1,400 for all-inclusive holiday, admitting he focusses on the beer when he's away.

Rebecca Phillips started packing dried goods like Pot Noodles and biscuits for her husband three years ago when he stubbornly refused to eat anything but chips during their overseas trips.

The mum-of-one then began increasing the number of items she'd pack for her fussy partner - stuffing a whole suitcase with sweets, chocolate bars, porridge pots, and packets of sausages and bacon for their fortnight getaways.

The determined pair even squeeze in a George Foreman grill in their checked-in luggage so John can relish bacon and sausage sandwiches while away.

On their holiday to Egypt last year, the couple hauled 21 Pot Noodles, 86 bags of crisps, two packets of bacon, a pack of 30 sausages, cans of tuna, a block of cheese and brown sauce.

To cater to the 40-year-old's sweet cravings, Rebecca also packed 30 Club Biscuit bars, 16 bags of sweets and breakfast bars.

The gut-busting stash, including a charge to check-in another suitcase, cost the family an extra £300 on top of the £1,400 bill for the all-inclusive holiday.

However, 29-year-old Rebecca said the extra luggage 'doesn't annoy her' - asserting she wouldn't enjoy the trip if her hubby wasn't eating.

This means Rebecca is often left to dine alone, with John confessing he only pays for all-inclusive trips for the 'free beer'.

Rebecca, also from Stoke, Staffordshire, shared her travel woes: "I go on holiday and I eat anything but he just won't. He's always been that way.

"When we first met and we first started going away, he would just eat chips. Then we started taking stuff on holiday with us and it just accumulated."

She said they started bringing just Pot Noodles at first then it just became sweets, chocolate bars, breakfast bars, and eventually "86 packets of crisps for two weeks."

"Then we started bringing meat with us. We put ice packs in food containers and put the meat in," she added.

John, a staunch beer enthusiast, confessed his lifelong picky eating habits, saying he favours 'good old-fashioned English' fare.

John revealed: "I like my home comforts when I go abroad. So instead of searching for decent food, I'll just take my own food with me.

"I've always been a fussy eater, I don't eat much veg at all. I like good old-fashioned English food, chips, sausage, and gravy - that sort of stuff."

He then made a booze-based admission.

"I'm only interested in the free beer at the all-inclusive, the food doesn't really matter to me," he said.
