The mosted beloved cat in the UK could get booted out of his famous home very soon.

As Sir Keir Starmer entered 10 Downing Street for the first time on Friday (July 5) after becoming Prime Minister, there's one thing about his new home that he might not have been expecting. For the last 13 years Larry the cat has resided at the famous residence having seen off six PMs in that time.

Having notoriously fended off a huge fox in 2022, the feline has gained something of a no-nonsense reputation for himself. But, as the new PM looks to welcome his German Shepard Jojo into number 10, Larry could be in for his biggest battle yet.

One of Starmer's first real tests could be having to solve the cross-species tensions of Jojo and Larry as they go head-to-head in their bid to rule number 10.

Nicky Trevorrow, a cat behaviour manager from Cats Protection, believes the pair could clash. He told the MailOnline: "Cats . . . will be protective of their territory and all the perks that come with it – like food, shelter and warmth.

"That's why it's important to take it really slowly, keep them in separate areas and get them used to each other's scent before they actually see each other. When they're familiar with (it), it'll make the face-to-face introduction much easier.

"The worst thing to do is to put them together on day one and hope they'll sort it out themselves. It's too much of a shock and both cats will be on their guard which will most likely lead to aggressive behaviour. In turn this can cause them to be stressed and it may make the whole process slower in the long run."

Larry was born in 2007, but became a stray, so was adopted by Downing Street staff in 2011 from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home . . . and has since become a legend on social media.
