Whatever your preferred social media platform is, the Hawk Tuah girl will probably be all over it.

Whether it's Facebook, Instagram, TikTok or YouTube, you will have seen either a meme, GIF or short video of her saying you "gotta spit on that thang." The 'hawk tuah' being a reference to the onomatopoeia she delivered of the spitting action.

Her sound relationship advice came during a risqué street interview with Tim & Dee TV, where one of her responses went on to become mega viral. What followed was a million memes and a global search for her identity.

There's lots of quality news coming out of the US.

And shortly after she became a worldwide sensation, she was revealed as Hailey Welch, from Nashville, Tennessee.

But that wasn't enough for the dogged netizens, they wanted to know more about the girl.

And they got just that when a story started doing the rounds which claimed Hailey was actually a preschool teacher who was fired from her job because of the interview.

The thing about viral sensations is that if you can make something believable enough about the subject, then that too can go viral on its coat tails.

In this instance a viral post from a Facebook page called the Tippah County Tribune claimed the "hawk tuah girl" was Hailey Wellington of Ripley, Mississippi, and that she had been fired from her job as a preschool teacher.

According to the post, Carla Reed, the Director of Epstein Day School, released a statement addressing the incident. “We have kids spitting on each other and everything else since they heard their beloved Miss Hailey say 'spit on that thang' on YouTube. They really look up to her as a role model and imitate the things that she does.

"We love Hailey but unfortunately we cannot allow this type of behavior from one of our very own faculty members."

The post even had a response from 'Hailey' stating: "What I said during that interview was based on my own personal thoughts. I was giving good advice to those who might want to have a little fun. I have the right to share my life experiences if I choose to do so. It has nothing to do with the kind of teacher I am for my kids. It is outright discrimination and I plan to seek retribution against the preschool."

However, what some readers failed to spot was that the Tippah County Tribune is a self-proclaimed satire site, and therefore definitely not true.

What we do know is that she is cashing in on her catchphrase, but not a lot else.

Hailey has partnered with Tennessee-based hat company Fathead Threads to sell her own line of hats after being identified by OutKick.

But as far as finding out more about Hailey's back story is concerned, that remains elusive.

While a number of accounts have appeared on the likes of Instagram, with variants of her name claiming to be her, finding out more about the real Hailey remains a work in progress.
