A man was left scratching his head after discovering a peculiar item outside his workplace - the severed head of a robot, complete with human-like eyes and a nose.

He took to Reddit to share photos of his unusual find, with the reverse shot of the AI head revealing a tangle of wires inside, some of which appeared to have been cut when the robot was decapitated.

"Found outside my work," he simply posted in the Weird subreddit. This sparked speculation among users, with some suggesting it could be remnants of Halloween decorations or possibly the head of a crash test dummy.

Others were left questioning its origin. "Are you in a dystopian future right now?" one Reddit user queried. Another joked: "Wow, and I was happy finding one plastic boob behind a Victoria's Secret. Where do you work that you find things like this?"

"Do you work next to a Nightmare Factory?" a third chimed in, while a fourth asked similarly: "Do you work at Five Nights at Freddy's?"

Earlier this year, reports emerged of a humanoid robot designed to mimic human behaviour being showcased at the National Robotarium in Edinburgh. The project aims to enhance understanding between humans and robots.

The bot, which goes by the name Ameca, uses artificial intelligence (AI) to communicate with people. Ameca has cameras for eyes and microphones for ears, and is described as being able to "interact with people in a natural and engaging way".

Researchers say that Ameca can pull facial expressions to show its thinking and joking, using its advanced motorised components and smart facial recognition software.
