The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has revealed the new Universal Credit rates that will kick in soon.

The fresh Universal Credit payment rates are set to start in just a few days – with the full list of allowances now confirmed. The updated rates are due to begin from April 8, 2024.

From this date, DWP benefits, including Universal Credit, will go up by 6.7% Payments due after April 8 will include a mix of the old and new rates until a full payment cycle under the new rates has been completed.

The Universal Credit (monthly rates) for single claimants Under 25 will be £311.68 (up from £292.11) and 25 or over will increase to £393.45 (up from £368.74), reports Birmingham Live.

Joint claimants both under 25 will increase to £489.23 (up from £458.51) and joint claimants, one or both 25 or over, will increase to £617.60 (up from £578.82). The first child (born before April 6, 2017) will increase to £333.33 (up from £315.00) and first child (born on or after April 6, 2017) / second child and subsequent child (where an exception or transitional provision applies) will increase to £287.92 (up from £269.58).

The Disabled Child Additions lower rate addition will go up to £156.11 (from £146.31) and the higher rate addition will increase to £487.58 (from £456.89). The Limited Capability for Work monthly amount will also go up to £156.11 (from £146.31).

The Limited Capability for Work and Work-Related Activity monthly amount will increase to £416.19 (from £390.06) and Carer Amount will go up to £198.31 (from £185.86). The childcare costs amount maximum for one child will be £1014.63 (from £950.92), maximum for two or more children will go up to £1,739.37 (from £1630.15) and non-dependants' housing cost contributions will increase to £91.47 (from £85.73).

The higher work allowance (no housing amount) for one or more dependent children or limited capability for work will be £673.00 (from £631.00) and lower work allowance will be £404.00 (from £379.00).
