It all began with a starting price of 99p before shooting to £50 within a matter of a few bids. In the end, it sold for £130, around 260 times its face value.
The iconic piece scooped 14 bids from a total of seven different users. Within a five-day bidding period, it went from a few pennies to the £100 region fast.
According to the seller, the Kew Gardens 50p coin in question was a 2009 Genuine Circulated piece. There's just 210,000 of these in circulation since the release.

With so many of these coins being sold on eBay every day, it's so important knowing how to tell which ones are genuine and not fake.
The last thing you want when you're buying your coin is a scam. Firstly, it should have the Queen's head with a neck that ends up pointing at the "P" in "Pence".
Also in the neck area of the heads sign, a genuine coin will feature the initials of Ian Rank-Broadley (IRB), if not then you should walk away immediately.
To determine the rarity of a 50p coin, one must consider its design, mintage quantity, and historical significance. You could find mintage figures on the Royal Mint website.
