Rare 50p coin to mark London landmark sells for hundreds after multiple eBay bids

Rare coins aren't always easy to find but you'll know when one is special and worth selling. Now you better check your change as an iconic piece has just sold for a fortune

When was the last time you checked your rare coin collection?

It's always crucial keeping an eye on what bit of change you've got lying around the place. That's because certain pieces could be worth an eye-watering amount.

Take the Kew Gardens 50p coin, there's just 210,000 of them in circulation, making it highly desirable among Brits. Now we've seen one sell for hundreds on eBay.

It all began with a starting price of 99p before shooting to £50 within a matter of a few bids. In the end, it sold for £130, around 260 times its face value.

The iconic piece scooped 14 bids from a total of seven different users. Within a five-day bidding period, it went from a few pennies to the £100 region fast.

According to the seller, the Kew Gardens 50p coin in question was a 2009 Genuine Circulated piece. There's just 210,000 of these in circulation since the release.
