Rare coin collectors would do just about anything to get their hands on a piece.

When it comes to coins, it's no secret the Kew Gardens 50p is one of the most desirable out there. But recently we saw a piece celebrating Peter Rabbit can also go for loads.

Now over on eBay, a Blue Peter coin released to mark the London Olympics went for more than its face value. The piece marked the high jump from the iconic 2012 games.

According to the seller, the 50p boasts an "intricate detailing with a unique design". In the end, the coin sold for £5.58 after being listed online.

The product description said: "This 50p coin is a rare piece from the 2011 Blue Peter collection. With intricate detailing and a unique design, it's a must-have for any serious coin collector.

"This particular coin features the iconic Blue Peter ship logo making it a special addition to any collection. Its value lies not only in its rarity, but also in its historical and cultural significance.

"Don't miss out on the chance to own this rare gem." It was first listed on March 27 and lasted just seven days with just three bidders.

In total, it racked up five bids with a starting price of £1. While it sold for just £5.58 in the end, it's still over 11 times its face value from 50p.
