Rare coin collectors would do just about anything to get their claws on a bargain.

Recently, we saw a Kew Gardens 50p coin sell for a fortune online. With just 210,000 of these in circulation, it's no surprise why everyone wants one.

Now to commemorate King Charles III's Coronation last May, a 50p set is turning heads on eBay. It garnered a lot of attention online, with a total of 18 bids.

During the 5-day period, 10 eBay users battled to get their claws on the popular coin collection. And in the end, it sold for an eye-watering £125 with free Express Delivery.

In the description, it read: "The King Charles III Coronation Silver Proof Colour 50p Set is a rare find, with only 495 made. It's a collector's dream, fearing a domination of 50p.

"The set was manufactured in the Isle of Man, a region known for producing quality coins. The year of issue is 2023, and this set is designed for Great Britain, making it a valuable addition to any collection.

"Don't miss the opportunity to own this unique and exceptional piece of British decimal coinage history." The eBay user finished the post: "Photos don't do justice *lovestruck emoji*."

It was first posted on eBay on January 12 with a starting price of 99p. Soon after it shot to £5 before hitting the £100 region in a matter of a few days.

Bidders were eager to get their hands on the collection and the final amount ended at £125. The seller told potential buyers it came in its original box with COA.

Meanwhile this isn't the first time we've seen a huge bidding war on eBay. Recently, a set of 50p coins including the Kew Gardens piece went for loads online.

The seller put the collection up for 99p before it shot up to £100 in the space of a few hours. And then in a matter of a couple of bids, it rose to £200.
