Mason Greenwood's spell at Manchester United looks set to come an end.

Greenwood, 22, is set to leave Old Trafford on a permanent deal this summer - with United agreeing to sell him to French side Marseille for £27million. He reported to United’s training complex on Monday for a “constructive” meeting with executives, aimed at finding him a new club.

The 22-year-old, who has not played for United for two-and-a-half years, did not train and immediately left the complex after the talks. According to The Athletic, the French side will now pay £23m up front with an additional £4m in add-ons for his services.

Last summer, Greenwood was informed by United, after an in-house investigation, that he has no future at the club even though charges of attempted rape and assault against him were dropped last year. He always denied any wrongdoing.

As a result, he was shipped out on loan to Getafe - where he was named as the club's player of the year, after netting 10 goals in 36 games. But his position at Old Trafford has not changed.

Greenwood was suspended by United in January 2022 following his arrest for attempted rape, assault and coercive control. The case against Greenwood was discontinued when the Crown Prosecution Service dropped all charges.

United had planned to reintegrate Greenwood into their squad at the start of last season, but ultimately abandoned that plan over fears of a public backlash, given the sensitivity of the situation.

There had been interest from Lazio this summer as well as the La Liga duo of Atletico Madrid and Valencia. However, he now look set for a move to the French giants.

The Athletic's David Ornstein added: "[The] proposed deal remains subject to 22yo forward’s approval: not yet in place. [The] price [is] €31.6m (€27.6m fixed, €4m add-ons) plus large share of future sale."

It has been suggested this could be as much as 50% of any future transfer fee.
