Scottish folk love themselves a bit of pro wrestling – but not nearly as much as they love their football.

Hence why WWE is in for a major shock when Smackdown comes to Glasgow in June - with the event taking place on the same night Scotland face Germany at Euro 2024 (June 14). As such, fans reckon there'll be one or two empty seats inside the OVO Hydro when the wrestling company stages their ill-timed show.

"Scotland hosting Smackdown when Scotland are playing Germany in the Euros. What could go wrong," one X user laughed. Another said: "Booking Smackdown up against Scotland opening the Euros - good luck, lads."

WWE are preparing to stage their first ever premium live event (pay-per-view) in Scotland, Clash at the Castle, on Saturday, June 15. Last year, they hosted a pay-per-view by the same name in Cardiff, Wales, marking the first time they'd staged such an event in the UK since SummerSlam in 1992, which was held at Wembley Stadium in London.

Scotland's own Drew McIntyre is one of the company's top stars at the moment. He won the World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Seth Rollins at Wrestlemania earlier this month, only to lose it minutes later when Damian Priest cashed in his Money in the Bank contract, sparking an immediate title match, after McIntyre was attacked by CM Punk.

Scotland's tie with tournament hosts Germany is the opening match of Euro 2024, and will take place at the Allianz Arena in Munich. Steve Clarke's men will be desperate to better their performance at Euro 2020, where they were eliminated at the group stage after picking up just one point from three games.

Games against Switzerland (June 19) and Hungary (June 23) will follow, with the Scots looking to qualify for the knockout rounds for the first time in their history - and given that four of the best-performing third-placed teams go through along with the top two in each group, Scotland have every chance and doing just that.
