A Tour de France fan who was pictured seemingly throwing crisps at two riders has been arrested.

Tadej Pogacar and Jonas Vingegaard were going toe-to-toe up the fearsome Pla d'Adet - with the Tour title seemingly on the line. Pogacar, who has finished second for the past two years, was able to break the two-time defending champion Vingegaard on the steep slopes.

However, as Pogacar raced into the clouds of the Pyrenees, one fan was seen throwing crisps in the face of the Slovenian. And, According to Le Parisien, the fan was arrested for “aggravated violence” before being released.

"There was quite a bit of booing and someone was throwing chips, I heard also they threw the chips at Tadej and that’s strange to do. Just stay off the road and don’t boo anyone. I don’t understand why you go to a bike race and boo at people," Vingegaard said after the stage.

"It was crisps in the face,” Mauro Gianetti, Pogacar's team boss, explained. “The public is sometimes too excited, and a stupid thing happened. Fortunately, without a big problem, and nothing bad happened.”

Adam Hansen, president of the CPA (Cyclistes Professionnels Associés), said on X that "the CPA will take legal action against this guy with pleasure due to what he did to both Pogacar and Vingegaard. This is disrespectful and will not be tolerated."

Pogacar won the stage by 39 seconds over Vingegaard - smashing Lance Armstrong's record up the 9.08 km climb by just under two minutes.

He would then repeat the feat on Sunday producing arguably the greatest climbing performance of all time atop the Plateau de Beille - which he climbed six minutes faster than Armstrong did during his 2004.

The Slovenian now has one hand on the title, with the race finishing on Sunday (July 21) in Nice.
