Marvel fans were left shell-shocked by a surprise twist in the freshly dropped trailer for the eagerly awaited Disney+ series Agatha All Along.

The preview opens with a murder mystery that could have come straight from True Detective, starring witch Agatha Harkness (played by Kathryn Hahn) picking apart the curious death of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen).

However, it appears the series is taking inspiration from its hit forerunner, WandaVision, which saw Wanda ensnared in an uncanny parallel reality reminiscent of historical TV comedies.

Agatha's partner Rio Vidal (Aubrey Plaza) reveals the shocker that Wanda is still trapped in Westview, New Jersey, before Agatha collaborates with goth teen Billy Kaplan (Joe Locke) in an attempt to escape.

The sneak peek promises Halloween delights filled with spine-chilling thrill; however, it has ignited fierce debates among fandom about Wanda's destiny following her supposed death in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness' finale.

One devastated fan bemoaned on X (formerly Twitter): "I wake up to the agatha all along trailer only to find out wanda really is dead....."

In contrast, another fan refuted: "yeah no... even AGATHA doesn't believe this.

"Wanda is NOT DEAD and we're probably gonna discover something about her through the episodes #AgathaAllAlong."

Joining the refusal to accept the possibility, another added: "I REFUSE to believe this is some kind of confirmation she's dead, she's just not."

In contrast, one Reddit user seemed to accept the supposed demise: "So Wanda is really dead huh."

Another quickly replied, "Bruh! This is the MCU.

"No one really dies in the MCU. And even if someone dies, they can use time travel or multiverse shenanigans to bring them back."

Even as the trailer depicts a body purported to be Wanda's, fans remain doubtful, keeping in mind her last scene where she appeared to be crushed under a mountain.

A popular fan theory proposes that the body may actually belong to Wanda's teenage son Billy, who appears to sport an attire strikingly similar to the one on the corpse, despite it being tagged a "Jane Doe".

"That's William Maximoff," a user predicted. "I believe Agatha will transfer the spirit of Billy to the body and reanimate it. The hoodie seems to match the one worn by Billy in the preview and so forth. It's just my theory."

Elsewhere, another Reddit commentator speculated: "'W. Maximoff'. Is it 'Wanda Maximoff' or a misdirect with it indeed being 'William (Billy) Maximoff'?"

Agatha All Along premieres Wednesday, September 18 on Disney+.
