The Chase star Anne Hegerty let some of the show's insider info slip as she celebrated her birthday.

Anne marked her 66th birthday on Sunday (July 14), as fans of the ITV quiz show wished her well. The star, known to millions of viewers as The Governess, thanked her thousands of followers for their well-wishes, as she celebrated her big day.

However, while she celebrated her momentous day, she also let slip a number of the show's secrets - both in terms for the show's production, and her own personal time on the show. She explained how the show's production works behind the scenes.

During the show, contestants answer a series of quick-fire questions being asked by host Bradley Walsh in order to build up their cash before taking on the Chaser. Once they meet the contestants, the Chaser makes eye-watering offers to tempt them to take a much longer route to make it back to the team.

However, Anne revealed that while it may look like the Chasers have the final say on how much money is offered, the truth is far more rigid. She explained that going into each clash, producers tell the Chasers how much to offer before they enter the set.

"I'm probably not supposed to tell you, so I'm telling , it's actually the producers," Anne told the Metro newspaper at the TV Choice Awards earlier this year. "The message gets passed down to the floor, and that's how we know what the offer is," she added before admitting she needs to "pretend" the offer was her idea.

As a result, Anne quipped that she has no problem losing to big-money chases, because if the money does end up being won at the end of the game, it is not her money she is parting with. However, while she may not be in control of the money that is given away, she did recently reveal that she has her own "filthy little secret" on the show.

She explained her shot to fame has been something she has been hoping for a long time, and she is grateful she gets to live her dream. "My filthy little secret is that I’ve always wanted to be famous and I don’t get nervous being on TV!" she said in an interview with The Sun on Sunday.

Looking back at her TV career, Anne said her first brush with TV fame came in 1987 when she appeared on Mastermind, though she was quickly bumped from the show. However, as she worked her way through the pub quiz circuit, she honed her skills - and even went on to become friends with fellow Chaser Mark Labbett.

"I loved the stardom," Anne confessed, adding that she enjoys every moment of fame that she gets. "I paid off the mortgage, bought a new car and some jewellery too."
