Saturday Kitchen fans were left utterly distracted as culinary queen Nigella Lawson served up a delectable cherry delight on the beloved BBC series.

In the most recent instalment of the weekend favourite, host Matt Tebutt passed the baton to Nigella, who was filming in her own kitchen. In a pre-recorded segment, the celebrated chef had viewers drooling with her cheesecake-inspired ice cream creation.

However, it was when the cheeky chef began to whip up her nostalgic Cherries Jubilee that fans seemed to lose their cool - and they couldn't help admitting it. Nigella went on to express her fondness for the classic treat.

The 64-year-old commented: "I know I'm irredeemably camp, but every now and then I am filled with the deep need to make cherries jubilee and this, it would appear, is one of those times."

As she added her frozen cherries to the mix, she elaborated: "In the fifties in America, because I'm something a bit obsessive with old menus, cherries jubilee was the great dessert. But, in fact, it's more retro than that."

Nigella then revealed the dish's origins, tracing it back to Queen Victoria's jubilee celebration. Yet, as Nigella proceeded with her sumptuous dessert preparation, viewers couldn't help but react.

Flocking to X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, fans expressed their amusement and awe. One social media enthusiast exclaimed: "Did Nigella just say she's irredeemably camp? ! ? As she starts poking and playing with her cherries?!?! I'm about to self-combust." (sic)

Another fan gushed on social media: "According to the 'tweets' on here Nigella is heating up a lot of cherries week after week." Another chimed in, saying: "We too, the populous, are a great fan of Nigella's cherries. It's unanimous." (sic)

However, not everyone was impressed by the culinary display, with one critic posting: "Bloody Hell, Nigella doesn't half talk a right load of old b******s. She's heating up some cherries for Christ's sake.." (sic)

Nigella Lawson has long been celebrated for her sultry approach to cooking, and last year she certainly set tongues wagging during a festive cookery show. In her TV appearance, she whipped up some scrumptious Dutch Speculaas biscuits.

During the show, Nigella quipped: "So before I roll it out, I'm gonna give this slab a bit of a dusting with my magic wand, or perhaps it's more of a seasonal sceptre. Let's unwrap this fat patty my drag name."

Reacting to her humorous comment, a viewer exclaimed on X: "We're still howling over your drag name quip! Happy Christmas, Nigella. Don't ever change."
