The PGDT programme is being offered in the DEI Campus and in 18 Study centres of DEI in the distance mode.

In the conventional mode, a candidate successfully completing the PGDT programme will be able to comprehend the general methodologies of study of religion, in the traditional and modern context besides gaining a historical perspective of religion as a spiritual phenomenon in general, as also of individual religions in particular. The relation between science and religion obtained in different cultures is explained in this course and the ideal situation in which they both help the development of human civilization is traced. An effort is also made to define what is meant by the scientific study of religion by adopting a holistic and systems approach. In the last unit, the relation between ethics and religion is set forth and it is shown how ethics based on religion is far more relevant to modern man, than rationalist ethics.

It is shown that religion correlates with the spiritual dimensions of man and that the true seeker of truth is the most eligible student for the study of religion. Some basic concepts of division of human personality into body, mind and spirit, the necessity of development of our spiritual faculty and the raising of our spiritual consciousness to the highest level, are also explained.

The Theology programmes offered by the Dayalbagh Educational Institute aim at providing a deep study of the Methodology of Science of Religion, World Religions, Religion of Saints, Unity of Religions and Spiritual Consciousness. Besides instruction, the programmes lay a strong emphasis on the elements of research and, through expert supervision, provide the means for students to present their own research conclusions.

Beginning academic session 2008-2009, the PGDT programme was offered in the Distance Mode or Home Based Instruction Mode. In this mode students access pre-recorded lectures of their courses at their place of convenience (home or otherwise) through a secure web-site. Examinations, however, are conducted at the Local Distance Education Study Centre as per the DEI academic schedule. Students also have access to a course Web site which provides them with all the course resources, e.g., detailed course notes, and other details in a downloadable format. For students enrolling for programmes in this mode, it is mandatory that they have access to broadband Internet in order to be able to access Web content and stream video. Videos will not be available for download or recording.
