Established in June of 1989 in Sant Fruitós de Bages, located around 60 kilometers from Barcelona with the name VND, a joint venture with VALEO (50 percent) and NIPPONDENSO (50 percent) was built. While changing its name to NIPPONDENSO Barcelona S.A., production started in 1991. In 2004, DENSO Sistemas Termicos Espana S.A was established. At this greenfield site, production started in 2006. Both companies have seen significant expansion and sales growth.

DENSO in Europe

Established in 1972

Continuous expansion throughout Europe

Since the Dutch had already introduced Japanese culture into European society in the 17th century, DENSO’s first representative office was established in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, in 1972. One year later its regional headquarters, Nippondenso Europe (now DENSO International Europe), was established in Weesp. Since then DENSO Europe has expanded to include sales and manufacturing companies across the region.

DENSO Barcelona S.A. established

DENSO Barcelona S.A. established

in Sant Fruitós de Bages, located around 60 kilometers from Barcelona, with the name VND, a join venture with VALEO (50%) and NIPPONDENSO (50%). While changing its name to NIPPONDENSO starting production in 1991 with 63 associates and producing ignition coils.

1993-1995

NIPPONDENSO Barcelona expands products and internal facilities

Starts production of Electronic Control Units (ECU), air-conditioning ECU, and distributors. Receives a regional Quality award (Catalonia Government).

1996-2000

Company name change from NIPPONDENSO to DENSO Barcelona in 1996

while expanding facilities for the 3rd time. Product portfolio includes new range of electronic and powertrain products such as body ECU, ignition stick coils and air flow meters

2001-2005

DENSO Barcelona expands

internally in powertrain area and externally in warehouse area. Includes O2 sensor, meter cluster and A/C panel as part of its portfolio products.

DENSO Sistemas Termicos Espana S.A. established

in Vigo.

2006-2010

DENSO Barcelona further expands

warehouse area and also a second internal expansion. Receives 10 years of best environmental practices by EMAS reward and a regional low accident award.

Facilities and operational expansion

DENSO Barcelona executes its 8th expansion with more than 2000 m2 of new building for R&D and Inspection Center labs, a Talent and Development center and a brand new general office.
Launches one of the biggest self-consumption photovoltaic systems in Catalonia: 1000 solar panels that will reduce 100 tons of CO2 to the atmosphere on a yearly basis.
After 24 years of Japanese top management, for first time a local President is appointed.

2016

More expansion

DENSO Barcelona external facilities expansion to benefit associate care (canteen and resting area), and new building acquisition to reinforce its logistic and productivity operations.
