Denver could escape both rounds of snow hitting western, southern and eastern areas of the state Friday.

Light snow is on the way to the mountains Friday afternoon after the Palmer Divide and eastern plains already received some overnight snow.

Areas south and east of Denver received between one and three inches of snow, causing some dangerous road conditions on highways. The overnight snow was mainly focused on a line from Monument to Limon and Burlington and ended early Friday morning.

The snow coming Friday afternoon will mainly be focused west of Denver in the mountains, where one to four inches could fall.

If any snow makes it to Denver or anywhere else in the urban corridor, accumulations will likely only be about half an inch, forecasters at the National Weather Service in Boulder said. Temperatures in Denver will be slightly below normal Friday as the high reaches 41 degrees.

Snow will move out of the state by Saturday, except for some mountain flurries, but the next round of snow to the state will come in Sunday night into Monday. That system will likely be focused on southern Colorado, forecasters said, with Denver likely to be the northernmost edge of impacted areas.

Light snow is all that’s expected in that system as well, but areas directly south of Denver have a 20% chance of heavier snow.

This system will bring much cooler temperatures to Denver, with Sunday’s high at 37 degrees and Monday’s high at 29 degrees. Forecasters expect the low Monday night to be only 11 degrees.

After that, Tuesday will be about 40 degrees before a third round of snow is possible in the Denver metro next Wednesday and Thursday.
