News: 2 days agoThe Eagles placed Smith (ankle/hamstring) on injured reserve Tuesday and designated him to return, Tim McManus of ESPN.com reports.
Spin: After being selected in the fifth round of April's NFL Draft, Smith came on strong late in training camp and tallied eight catches on 12 targets for 43 yards during the exhibition slate. However, he suffered an ankle injury during Philadelphia's preseason finale, and an MRI indicated that he'll likely need to miss four to six weeks. Under a new NFL rule, Philadelphia was able to leave Smith off the 53-man roster, place him on IR and designate him to return. He'll need to miss at least the Eagles' first four games of the regular season.
