Studies and traineeships

• you need a recognised university degree in conference interpreting, or
• a university degree in any subject and a master's in conference interpreting.

If you are thinking about studying interpreting, the following considerations are very important when it comes to choosing which course to take:

• you should be able to learn to interpret into your active language,
• you should be able to take courses in interpreting from all the languages you want to work with,
• the teachers and exam board members should be accredited interpreters.

The Directorate-General for Logistics and Interpretation for Conferences does not offer training or traineeships in interpreting.

Any student or young graduate can apply to do a traineeship in Parliament's Secretariat. And if you're interested in interpreting, you could apply to do a traineeship in the Directorate-General for Logistics and Interpretation for Conferences as a way of familiarising yourself with the way in which the work of interpreters is organised.
