Program Content/Learning Objectives

As pandemic restrictions have receded, big events have returned. These are the events for which transit agencies do something special – such as special fares; partnering with sponsors for combined tickets, revenue sharing, and promotions; additional fare collection methods; additional service; and providing additional workforce necessary for service and security. Such events include ongoing and annual occurrences (rodeos, state fairs, sports games) as well as one-time (Superbowl, World Cup, faith-based conferences, large concerts). Transit finance officers from across the nation will gather in Dallas to develop techniques to measure and maximize the short-term and long-term positives.

Workshop objectives – After attending this conference, participants will be able to:

  • Identify events requiring special assessment, as well as methods to analyze the financial impact – with a focus on decision support and reporting to the Board and stakeholders.
  • Understand the Finance role in planning for these events and approaches for budgeting incremental revenue and costs.
  • Explore revenue collection challenges and solutions – including innovations to achieve agency ridership, revenue, and overall goals and objectives.
  • Asses event-related issues regarding equity, workforce, and charter service & other federal regulations.
  • Synthesize workshop information to develop financial strategies to advance and support agency near-term and longer-term plans.
  • Identify and share best practices through structured, participative, conversation sessions with other transit agencies.
