My Country Childhood
FOR AWARD-WINNING author Heather Rose, reminiscing about her early days growing up along the southern shores of Tasmania brings back special memories of idyllic, safe and carefree times and the genesis of an enduring love of literature and the sea.
“How simple life was then,” says Heather, now 55, who grew up at Blackmans Bay, south of Hobart with two older brothers and a younger sister, plus grandparents on both sides and extended family all living nearby. “It was a place where there was a sense of connection and that feeling of safety as a child,” she says. “There were very good values and everyone understood it was important to get a good education because we lived at the end of the world!”
Heather has written eight novels. Her seventh, the best-selling , brought wide acclaim children’s series with Danielle Wood under the shared pen name Angelica Banks. It has twice been shortlisted for the Aurealis Awards for best children’s fantasy.
