EXCUSES WHEN GOD CALLS

Excuses. There is never a shortage of them. People throughout history have always been quick to find an excuse. Way back in the Garden of Eden, Adam set the pattern of excuses when he tried to shift the blame to Eve and to God who gave him the woman. “It was the woman you gave me who gave me the fruit, and I ate it.” And then Eve blamed the serpent.

Many years later it was Moses’ turn to come up with some ready excuses when God dramatically appeared to him in a blazing fire from the middle of a bush. God called him to the monumental task of leading the Israelites out of Egypt to a promised land flowing with milk and honey, yet he responded with multiple excuses, as found in Exodus 3:

Excuse #1

‘I am a nobody’

“Who am I to appear before Pharaoh? Who am I to lead the people of Israel out of Egypt?”
