The Promise OF SPRING

The tick from the huge wall clock seemed to get louder and louder, as if it were trying to get Anna’s attention. It seemed to be ticking her off. Tempus fugit – time was passing – perhaps passing her by.

She looked hard at the face of the wrought-iron clock and felt as if she wanted to give it a piece of her own mind, tick it off right back.

Oh dear, that really was rather worrying, she thought. So this is what happened when you spent too much time on your own…

She would put the radio on, drown the sound out with some light classical music and get some breakfast organised. That’s it, she would get going, galvanise herself into action.

Momentarily, she stood in the centre of her beautiful new kitchen and felt at a loss to locate the kettle, bread bin and fridge. After living here for little over a week, Anna still didn’t have her bearings.
