It wasn’t my first time in Africa, but it was my first time south of the Equator. While many Brits choose Australia for their first foray in the southern hemisphere, I had jumped straight to the other end of the alphabet. To the would-be explorer in me, Zimbabwe felt pungent with promise. Best of all, I was visiting alone, with the deliciously sharpened senses that solo travel often brings.
