    The golden touch

    he glittering treasures discovered in 1939 at Sutton Hoo, Britain’s most famous Anglo Saxon archaeological site, revolutionised the way that we see that period of history forever. In 2009, the largest hoard of Anglo Saxon gold ever found was unearthed in Staffordshire, bearing a remarkable resemblance to the items found at Sutton Hoo. Historians now believe that many of the artefacts were made in the same 7th-century East Anglian workshops, and this year for the first time treasures of both hoards will be reunited in a special exhibition. From sparkling gold and (until 30 October) will reveal the Anglo Saxon period as a golden age of craftmanship.
