Honk-a-honk. Honk-a-honk!

“Did you hear them?” Jake asked his mom. “The swans are calling again!”

For weeks Jake had listened to trumpeter swans on Stony Lake. Their deep call sounded like his big sister playing the trumpet. Jake had asked Mom over and over again if they could go see the swans. Today it was finally warm enough to take the canoe out and watch them. Maybe he and Mom would find a swan’s nest.
