Do I have to pay backdated road fund tax?

Q I noticed my bank had stopped paying my direct debit for my road fund tax, even though there were sufficient funds to cover it. I had not been informed by the DVLA that payments had stopped.

I called the DVLA and they told me they had not taken the direct debit because I had ticked a box to indicate that I was no longer the registered keeper of the car (I had not done this), meaning that I had been driving around for several months without tax.

I forwarded my papers to the DVLA and now
