TAKING pride of place in Shane Breen’s indoor arena is an outsized photo, a snapshot in time that perfectly sums up the journey the Hickstead-based Irishman has been on to reach this point in an enviable showjumping career. He is pictured at Dublin Horse Show in 2019, flanked on the podium by Scott Brash and Lorenzo De Luca, lifting the silver trophy for Dublin Horse Show’s grand prix of Ireland.

“It was while I was sitting with my parents in the stands at Dublin aged nine that I decided to be a showjumper,” reveals Shane, who grew up on the Tipperary hunting field and represented Ireland in youth jumping teams before moving to England 15 years ago.
