JUST to ride at Blenheim was a long-held dream for farmer Malin Hansen-Hotopp – and it was a dream that ended with her lifting the trophy in honour of her late father.

“Every morning at 6am I would ride my bike in to feed my horse and pass the palace and the lake,” she said. “Before, I thought it would be a dream to come to Blenheim. Now I feel like I’ve lived the dream every single day.”

Malin and the striking dapple grey gelding Carlitos Quidditch K, a horse who commands as much presence as he has talent, led from the front, delivering a world-class performance in all three phases to win on a score of 25.8. The result headed a one-two for Germany on a golden day for both the country and this event.

While Malin delivered the performance of her career to take the Blenheim title, with Dirk Schrade and Casino 80 finishing runner-up, some 1,200 miles away their compatriots were stepping on
