WHEN LIANA DOUILLET GUZMÁN WAS TRYING TO HAVE A BABY IN 2015, she had insurance that would pay for IVF—just not for her. In order to be eligible, Guzmán had to be able to say she'd had more than a year of unsuccessful heterosexual sex. One problem: Her partner was a woman. “When you think about the LGBTQI community, the incumbent [healthcare] system, at best, wasn't built for us. And actually, more often than not, it's openly discriminatory,” says Guzmán, who eventually paid out of pocket.

Today, Guzmán is CEO of the telehealth platform Folx Health, which launched in 2019 to deliver gender-affirming care to trans patients, particularly those who live in areas where healthcare providers are unable
