'Brodie left no letter or message'

AKNOCK ON the front door of the house where Emma Webb lives in Newport, South Wales, prompts a cacophony of barking.

“The dogs aren’t used to visitors,” says Emma, proffering a welcoming smile as she pulls open the door to reveal Cocker Poos Maggie and Gwennie, and Coco, a Bassett crossed with a Poodle, all leaping wildly up at the baby gate that is preventing them from escaping the confines of the kitchen and over-enthusiastically greeting a caller.

“Coco’s an old lady at 14,” adds Emma, continuing the introduction. “Brodie was six when we got her and Brodie taught both Maggie and Coco tricks.”

Brodie Morgan was Emma’s daughter. Her only child. But on 10 March 2020 Brodie took her own life. And, past the kitchen, in the sizeable living room at the back of the house, virtually every object in here besides the furniture is dedicated to Brodie’s memory. There is her CWD saddle on a stand, carefully encased in a red cover, and on top sits her Samshield helmet.
