HILL CLIMBS TO THE TOP WITH OULTON SUCCESS

Reigning champion Ash Sutton said earlier on this year that winning the 2024 British Touring Car Championship crown would not be all about individual race victories. MB Motorsport BMW 330e M Sport driver Jake Hill clearly wasn’t listening.

He navigated his way through a tricky weekend of strategy at Oulton Park to be at the peak of his powers at just the right time. A podium in race two was followed by a brilliantly executed overtaking move to secure the spoils in the reversed-grid encounter. It means Hill has won five races in the last three meetings and he left Cheshire with the points lead firmly in his pocket.

Sutton was in the wars in his NAPA Racing UK Ford Focus. Following a second place in race one, he was pinged for flapping bodywork in race two. Then his climb through the order in race three came to nothing when damage caused a wheelarch to drop onto the front tyre, ruling him out. Tom Ingram had planted his Excelr8 Hyundai i30 N on pole and confidently won the opening race before everyone was put in the shade by the soft-tyred Speedworks Motorsport-run Toyota Corolla of Josh Cook in race two. A second in that race and a fourth in the finale meant Ingram capitalised too as Sutton slipped from the summit.
