Rifles In Africa
Rhinos are synonymous with African safaris, yet wherever the animals are found–both in Africa and around the world–another presence is all but guaranteed. Adult rhinos possess two horns on their nose giving them their iconic silhouette, and which are used for defence against predators and to establish dominance over rivals at mating time. But those horns also ensure rhino are stalked by a dark and destructive presence. Poachers, drawn by the extraordinary price tag of up to $250,000 USD for rhino horn in parts of Asia, prowl the African landscapes in search of this endangered prey. They kill the animals just to harvest their horn, which is then illegally shipped to some Asian countries where is used in traditional medicines.
Without concerted action, the outlook for white and black rhino in Africa would be bleak. The huge sums of money involved in the illegal rhinowhy Marc Newton, Rigby’s Managing Director, travelled to visit the Hurts at home in Namibia in 2022 to see their valuable work for himself.
