About this audiobook
Until one night, when her partner, Ethan, is killed.
Reeling from shock and grief, Merci vows to track down his murderer. As she starts digging, she meets Ethan’s estranged brother, Rafe, who agrees to work with Merci to find his brother’s killer. She soon discovers Ethan had been hiding things from her, mainly that he was a Shifter and had a whole life in a supernatural world she knew nothing about.
A Shifter himself, Rafe introduces Merci to magic she never knew existed. As they work together to uncover hidden connections between Ethan's murder and a series of strange dead bodies, they find themselves in the crosshairs of a turf war for the soul of the city.
If Merci is to have any hope of saving her city, she will have to face the truth about this war, the truth about this new magical world, and the truth about who she truly is.
Editor's Note
Mysteries Revealed...
Is it a mystery? Is it a paranormal? Is it a romance? Yes! Merci Lanard is an investigative journalist who uncovers a wealth of secrets when her partner is killed. The book succeeds on every level, from unraveling the mystery to revealing the paranormal world Merci has never seen before to the Scottish professor, who is definitely more than what he seems.

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a mix of good and bad. Some reviewers enjoyed the subtle unveiling of magic and the well-written characters, while others found the plot to be predictable and the narration to be monotonous. However, overall, the book is enjoyable with a compelling story and a feisty protagonist. The romance is tastefully done and surrounded by intriguing mysteries. Despite some flaws, readers appreciate the unique ideas and interesting characterization. The book is worth a read, especially when listened to at a faster speed.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wonderful listen. I'm looking forward to books 2 and 3. Initially, I found the female narrator's voice to be abrasive but by the end of the 2nd chapter, I realized her voice actually represents my mental image of Merci perfectly.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Probably a very good story if u can cope with the irritating know it all superwoman journalist ... I couldn't.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Had to listen at 2.0 speed. The narrator is just terrible. I made it through this (the first) in the series, but only a quarter through the second also at double speed. The story is okay. I'm big on making myself finish books...so take that how you will. I definitely had to force myself. The narrator's version of a male voice is just....lol. bless her. The producer/director did her dirty for sure. Could have been great with better direction. The main character was pretty unlikeable to me. I found myself rolling my eyes a lot. The plot could be so cool, but i just can't get over my dislike of the lead character and the narrator. This is a series I'll never finish.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I don’t like it , the woman reading it is so boring .I think the book I mean the story maybe is good but the woman reading it is like dead
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I fully appreciate the reviews that recommended listening at 1.2x speed. It makes such a difference, and the story is worth sticking around for!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5LOVED the book. You now go on my "favorite author list. Thank you for all the hard work you put into this.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Love this story. It did lag a bit at times and had to listen at 1.2x. Looking forward to the next one.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great story and I loved every word. The voice actor and the author are both amazing.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Interesting book with lots of plot twist and unusual characters. Will continue with this series to see how it plays out.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I got really creeped out by the narrator. She has a repetitive cadence that has nothing to do with content. I felt as if I were subject to a hideous trance inducing experience. Had to stop listening
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Nope. Terrible narrative, why do we need to do a "man" voice as a female narrator? I literally got 10 minutes in and has to quit. Must be a book to read instead...

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This was surprisingly good. It was less a paranormal romance and more just modern fantasy. But I enjoyed the subtle unveiling and awareness of magic and Merci's own ability.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5Overall the book was trying to hard to be nostalgic and relatable. To predictable and Mediocre. Author tried to hard and ran to multiple common know different stories. Not worth the listen.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very good. You've acquired another fan. It's not a typical witches, werewolf, evil story.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5New ideas. Interesting characterization. I don’t usually like novels with an emphasis on romance but this one was so good it merited the extra effort of a written review. The romance was in good taste and compelling and surrounded by mysteries to uncover.

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5The male voice imitation made my ears bleed…… just couldn’t do it! I’d rather her just keep the female voice and say “Ethan said” every time or something

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Tip: listen at 1.5 speed. Much better! Narrator talks way too slow
Story was ok.... Not bad, but I still enjoyed it.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Narrator needs some training. Holy shit why is she yelling, especially when beginning a sentence. I wonder if anybody reads these comments and if they did,why don’t they correct the mistakes? Obviously they don’t care that we spend money on books and want to enjoy them. I don’t like to throw my money away

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Meh usual plot - fight the bad guys (evil) who want to take over as city . An 'ego centred hero' story. The supernatural element was interesting BUT do Shape Shifters who are primarily wolves, bears and like eat BBQ meat and spaghetti? Too fun. Narrator is odd as sounds like an episode of Dragnet.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I was pulled in by the description and the content kept me interested for a little while but in the end I could not stand the narrator’s monotone. Just ruined it. No cadence at all. Completely missed the suspenseful tone of the novel.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very well done from author to narrator. I wasn't expecting this genre from the description about the story. Nice surprise. Great visual descriptions and character development. Just enough gore to keep us horror buffs going and just enough of everything else to the rest if the readers turning the pages. I actually had a tear in my eye at one point. Very exciting and great build up with a complete ending. A tiny bit too neat but really good all in all. Looking forward to the next book.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was a pretty good book the narrator was really good at defining the characters sometimes the dialogue from Mercy was a little long on suspenseful times but other than that it's actually a really good mystery romance little bit comedy.

- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I will try reading this in book form because I’m interested in the story but the narrator is unlistenable. She reads all the dialogue in a sing song voice and her male voices are terrible. It’s extremely distracting and I can’t continue.
