What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a light romcom with funny moments and relatable characters. The narrator's performance adds to the enjoyment of the book. However, some readers found the constant rambling unnecessary and the love interest annoying. The conflict between the main characters was not convincing for some readers. Despite these flaws, the well-written characters and the amazing setting make the book worth reading. The resolution of the story could have been explored more instead of internalizing reasons why they couldn't be together. Overall, it is an enjoyable read with room for improvement.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I listen to this in one sitting, it was funny and I liked the characters
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This was the cutest ,crushiest little book ever. I absolutely adore it.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Overall enjoyable but I don’t think it’ll be a re-read situation. I loved the characters and the story but the writing was a little frustrating at points. A lot of hypothetical possibilities and I get the idea - the main character tends to spiral into his imagination- but it was frustrating as a listener when I wanted the story to move forward. I’d definitely read another book by the same author- I would guess this trait is character specific and not author specific. The narrator was great, zero complaints there.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is exactly what a light romcom should be: bf to boyfriend via painfully embarrassing interludes and mistakes that make the reader whine *no no no don't do that*, a few good side characters and a happy ending.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5It was fine, even with the unnecessary constant rambling, but the last 1/3 just didn't do it for me.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5What I liked: It was a funny read. I found the inner dialogue hilarious. The narrator nailed it and I think I enjoyed the book as must as I did because of his performance.
What I didn't like: I know it is not fashionable but I still struggle to get used the "they" pronouns. For me the Mc's love interest was borderline annoying and whiny. They (see, I'm learning :p) didn't take responsibility for anything and were kind of passive all the time. Also
I didn't find the conflict between the 2 main characters so much of a conflict. In fact I kept thinking "What is their problem honestly;". They treated MC's slightly awkward but well intended big gesture like some kind of big insult or something.
All in all, with a lesser narrator I might have dropped it but it kind of won me over. - Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Every character in this book was relatable and well written and fully realized. The setting and basis was amazing. However it just felt like there were several chapters where they either just discussed how things should be or how the screwed up. Art and Preston have been best friends forever. Both having feelings from a shared drunken kiss in college and then neither telling the other how they felt. I just feel like there was so much time that could have been spent trying to be together and not internalizing all the reasons why they couldn't be and it was literally not resolved until the very last pages.
