What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a thought-provoking and challenging read. Many appreciate the author's honesty and conviction in addressing the state of modern-day Christianity. The book offers important insights and encourages self-reflection. However, some readers feel that the author's anti-Protestant leanings and emphasis on works may make them uncomfortable. Overall, this book is highly recommended for those seeking a deeper understanding of their faith and a call to live a more authentic Christian life.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A fantastic synopsis. Thank you, Matt, for not being afraid to speak out!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5One of the best books I have ever read! Truthful, clear, morally challenging yet all at once encouraging. Walsh speaks sincerely and truthfully; you have no choice but to listen. An absolute must-read for any and all Christians wanting to live lives that authentically and resolutely display trust in God and does not lean on ones own understanding.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book, very inspiring and hope many others will take the time to listen as well.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Thanks Matt! Insightful, clearly written, thoroughly enjoyable yet irrefutably challenging.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Matt Walsh opines that Christians —and the Christian church— have gotten soft, weak. And then he backs it up, with his usual wit and reasoning.
As a committed Christian, stumbling along as I seek God’s face… I agree with him.
His rebuke is not like pointing out the speck of dust, in your brother’s eye. Matt’s criticisms are deserved, and based in reality.
The author delivered a quality product, addressing an ongoing problem, past and present, and then applied a Biblical course correction. The presenter has a good voice, and did the book justice.
Thanks, and God Bless. Marko - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is a no-pulled-punches, hard dose of the truth that every Christian should read and prayerfully consider. Ouch!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow, this was so convicting. Absolutely a must-read for all Christians!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Matt Walsh is spot on in view of modern day “Christian’s”
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A lot of truth in there. I didn't like how he blamed people for lack of church attendance. I would love to be in a good church. Apparently there aren't many left that aren't run as a corporation or social club with light, fluffy, feel-good messaging.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Great book! Matt really gets you thinking about things from different and also realistic perspectives. Highly recommend!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Walsh really takes the gloves off and tells it like it is here. I had known him mostly as a conservative commentator, a podcaster who tersely excoriates our culture where it needs called out. I did not realize how devout he is in his faith. Now I do, and I have been called out for areas where I have lacked discernment. If any of this rubs you the wrong way, you probably need to hear it.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing book! Highly recommend to anyone serious about living a full life. Because He has come that we may have life and have it in abundance.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Amazing simply amazing really opened up my eyes to a lot of things in my own life. I promise to move forward in a bowl the way. Thank you Matt
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Thought provoking, highly challenging. A must read for every Christian.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I really liked the book, the first chapter was the best because of its humor, but the one later in the book about entertainment are not favorable in my opinion.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Judicious pronouncement undressing the compromised state of mass market Christianity and Christians who unfortunately attend to pursue Christ through its corrupt system. This path does not lead to Christ but instead to a counterfeit Christ who is nothing more than an idol. Well done.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I found myself agreeing with literally everything in this book!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Matt has the number of Christianity in the U.S. today! Great read, important insight every believer needs to read!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This audiobook was most educational and a reminder of what traditional orthodox Christianity used to be and used to mean. The book reminds us that what passes for Christianity these days, is not real Christianity. Without doubt - and this comes through clearly in Matt Walsh’s colorful prose - the widespread normalization and glorification of homosexuality by society has undermined the Christian churches to the point that they cannot be recognized as biblical Christians. I had watched Matt Walsh’s great podcasts on the Daily Wire, but I had not realized just how strong was his traditional Christian faith. I noticed he quoted C S Lewis on more than one occasion. This indicates the High intellectual grounding for his acceptance of Catholic doctrine. On this Scribd site, there are several C S Lewis audiobooks if members want to explore the intellectual basis for belief in the divinity of Jesus and the nature of Christian miracles. Matt Walsh is to be commended for writing this book, so there can be no doubt where the popular YouTube influencer lies on what has become a spectrum of Christian belief in these Modern Times
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I usually enjoy Matt Walsh's articles and find myself agreeing with him on a wide range of issues. I feel that same way about the overarching message of the book, but he often paints with too broad of a brush in this one. Usually, his Catholicism isn't too apparent, but his anti-Protestant leanings really come through in the book. According to the text, the only authentic way to worship correctly looks an awful lot like a Catholic church. There's a lot of emphasis on Works being equal to Grace that will make most attentive Protestants theologically uncomfortable. I kind of wish I hadn't read this book because it's changed my comfort level with Walsh. From now on it will have to be "shields up" when I read his work.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Well written. Easy to understand. A delightful harshness and mockery of weak Christianity, of Christianity without Christ.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5If you’re looking for an apologetics book defending the virtue of Christian dogmas with high ended educational logic and reasoning, then you’re going to be disappointed.
Really, this book isn’t for any seminary, priests institution, or even a Bible College. It’s for that guy looking to fill a wasteful night at a bar. The girl on her 27 “selfie” she posting on her social media page.
Because, it really isn’t a book about the trouble of the Christian Church, but instead, the trouble of the testimony of today’s Christians.
Honestly, the title of the book should have been, “God isn’t Dead, He Just Been Layoff ... and I Don’t Care.”
It’s the author’s personal understanding why this sentiment is simply wrong and dangerous.
In the end, the reader isn’t questioning God, The Church, or even religion, but instead themselves.1 person found this helpful
