Overall, this book is a must-read classic that enchants readers of all ages.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The best narration of an already wonderful book. Recorded Books has never done me wrong so far.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Revisiting this story from my childhood on a long drive. Perfection.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a glorious story! I can't believe it took me so long to get around to reading it. It will definitely stay a favourite of mine. It's really a wonderful tale, and easy to see how it's remained a classic.
It was originally recommend by my dad. The copy I have is the one that used to be on his shelves; this spine thoroughly cracked and half the map is missing. I can see why he wanted me to read it. ❤ - Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I love the narrators voice SO MUCH! Rob Inglis has a wonderful voice for fantasy novel readings. The way he sung the songs was adorable and I just adored the book. Thank you for helping me get an A in my Honors English class.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5I loved this book. I never got to read it when I was a kid, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the adventure.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Hobit was a great book filled with amazing adventures, I would highly recommend it ??
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I know he's considered a master, but I couldn't help feeling what I always feel reading Tolkien: a little bored. I don't feel that he draws strong enough characters to pull me in. The plot feels like "this happened, and then this, and then this..." While I enjoy some of the scenarios, I don't ever feel like it adds up to...much. And though I enjoyed refreshing my memory of the story (looking toward the film), I wish that I enjoyed it more. Will I ever tackle the whole Lord of the Rings trilogy? Maybe. I hear so many great things. On the other hand, I might reread Zelazny (Amber) or finish Moorcock (Elric) or begin reading Martin (A Song of Ice and Fire).
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is an excellent audiobook. I doubt it could have been done better. I followed along in the book, but one could just close your eyes and let your imagination draw pictures to go along with the reading.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It is a wonderful and terrible journey telling of wonderful and terrible people and what makes them that way
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It’s a classic! What can I say? I liked it. It’s pretty much a must read.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5Well, my last book of last year was The Hobbit and it's the first book of this year, too.
I read it this time, instead of listening to an audiobook. I actually enjoyed reading it a bit more since it helped me absorb places and names a bit better. Oddly, though, I still didn't enjoy the second half of the book as much. I'm not really sure why. I like it up to Mirkwood but after that, I get a little restless until we meet Smaug. Maybe it's the way the elves treat Bilbo. They're kinda mean.
I also think the whole Bilbo-knocked-unconcious-so-the-author-doesn't-have-to-describe-a-battle-in-depth thing is funny and a good work around. Gotta love limited 3rd person POV. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Inglis’ reading of “The Hobbit” is a stirring and lovely performance; his reading of the LOTR trilogy is even better—the masterful, definitive version, in my opinion.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5wonderful book! had to read it for school and thought it was going to be a boring long book. Not at all! I enjoyed very much!!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5What a wonderful narration! I enjoyed this thoroughly and am now setting off on an adventure of my own.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It was very exciting! Highly recommend! I would read it again!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Singing was always kinda off but otherwise waa a nice listen
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wonderful story! The narrator was exquisite. I loved this book!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I Loved the hobbit! Elrond is My favorite carecter thanks
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5My dad is working on reading it to me and I was listening to this and I really really love the Hobbit
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The staple of all Fantasy Works...This book is priceless.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Rob Inglis Audiobooks's 2011:
I started these as a combination of reading another favorite series of Stephanie's and challenging myself to read one of the few series in my teens that I voted "too boring to continue" (in the middle of Two Towers), yet it is something so well known, considered canon/classic.
My favorite part of listening to this one:
Listening to Rob Inglis sing, and listening to Rob Inglis sing in every single type of race and kind of voice. I own that I would really listen to this man sing anything at this point. I totally want to know if he has cd's. - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5It was really good. But I have a question: "In the battle of 5 armies, why did Beorn come to help the elves, dwarves, Eagles, and men? How did he know that they were in trouble?"
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The Hobbit was my favourite J.R.R. Tolkien. I loved the Hobbit more than the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I love Bilbo, Smeagol and the dwarves equally.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5J.R.R. Tolkien’s book The Hobbit is a masterpiece of fantasy fiction. I don’t think I need to add to the already overwhelming number of reviews praising the brilliance of Tolkien and his fantastic tales. However, I did want to take a moment and write a positive review of this particular audiobook version of The Hobbit, produced by Recorded Book and narrated by Rob Inglis. First off, this is an unabridged reading of the book. Many of the other audio versions are abridged. Abridged versions are trash. Do yourself a huge favor and listen to this unabridged version. Rob Inglis is an absolutely fantastic narrator and his talents really bring the characters and the story to life.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I'm reading this to Henry, who actually sits still for it and is following the story. I remember reading it to Parker when he was about the same age, and I'm not sure who enjoys the experience more, the boys or me.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5good fantasy
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This is still one of my all time favorite books!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It must come with age and being disappointed with the film but listening to this now it has lost the wonder and charm it once held for me.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Never watch a movie before reading its related novel! It might spoil the novel for you (and I don't like a novel being spoiled!). I did that mistake in The Hobbit, and my journey through the novel became unexpected. The first reaction was - "Whoah! where is all the heroism of the dwarf king Thorin?". I found the novel dwarves whiny to the point of annoyance. Also, I admit that I missed the White Council meeting shown in the movie.
Having said that, its totally unfair to compare then novel that is so old to a movie that was made so recently. So, keeping aside my whiny tone, I loved the novel. Tolkien greatly characterizes Bilbo, starting from a timid, easy-living hobbit to a mature, brave one. However, I felt that the dwarves lacked a bit of details. The journey to the Lonely Mountain was gripping. No one will ever forget Bilbo's encounter with Gollum, and his acquisition (or stealing?) of The Ring. The courage of Bilbo really bloomed when he saved the dwarves from the spiders, after which he actually kept saving them from every living thing.
The demise of Smaug was disappointing. I felt like the whole build-up of the dragon during the story went in vain. However, the Battle of Five Armies was conversely interesting; my most favorite part after Bilbo and Gollum. Bard filled the place of a much required heroic Man.
I would have loved the showing up of the White Council's assault on Dol Guldur. However, I understand that story doesn't relate to our main character - The Hobbit.
