The Zondervan Biblical and Theological Lectures series provides a unique audio learning experience. Unlike a traditional audiobook’s direct narration of a book’s text, Know the Heretics: Audio Lectures include high quality live-recordings of college-level lectures that cover the important points from each subject as well as relevant material from other sources.
There is a lot of talk about heresy these days. The frequency and volume of accusations suggest that some Christians have lost a sense of the gravity of the word. On the other hand, many believers have little to no familiarity with orthodox doctrine or the historic distortions of it. What's needed is a strong dose of humility and restraint, and also a clear and informed definition of orthodoxy and heresy. In Know the Heretics: Audio Lectures, scholar and author Justin Holcomb provides an accessible "travel guide" to the most significant heresies throughout Christian history.
Each lecture covers a simple explanation of the unorthodox teaching, the orthodox response and a key defender, and reflections of contemporary relevance for application in today's world.
Know the Heretics: Audio Lectures feature the author's expert teaching through every chapter in the textbook and is an ideal resource for traditional students, students in distance and online-learning courses, and self-learners, wanting to better understand Christian theology.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5This is a fun read and quite informative. A couple of things I picked up. 1) Not every contrary teaching qualifies as heresy. 2) Many of the heresies seemed rooted in an overrraction or a desire to "help" the Scriptures explain things about God.
I was not able to see the significance of chapter 5 on Mani but it was interesting.
The greatest point to see was how pernicious false teachings are. These aberrant "truth"-claims began immediately and rise up time and again. Pelagianism, Arianism, Modalism, etc attack the church relentlessly and the child of God must be diligent in Scripture so that he or she is not tossed to and fro by these winds of deceit.
This is a helpful, easy, interesting work on false teaching throughout the history of the Church.
