About this audiobook

Some doors are locked for a reason . . .

While eleven-year-old Nora Davis was up in her bedroom doing homework, she had no idea her father was killing women in the basement.

Until the day the police arrived at their front door.

Decades later, Nora's father is spending his life behind bars, and Nora is a successful surgeon with a quiet, solitary existence. Nobody knows her father was a notorious serial killer. And she intends to keep it that way.

Then Nora discovers one of her young female patients has been murdered. In the same unique and horrific manner that her father used to kill his victims.

Somebody knows who Nora is. Somebody wants her to take the fall for this unthinkable crime. But she's not a killer like her father. The police can't pin anything on her.

As long as they don't look in her basement.

All of her books are good but truly I could not listen to this at all. The narrator was horrible and I had to buy the book instead. I forced myself to get to chapter 6 but I can’t do it anymore.

The story was good but I had a hard time listening to the narrator, I wanted to stop listening several times but the story pulled me in, wish there were multiple narrator options for audiobooks.

I thought it was ok, definitely not a banger that's for sure

If you can get past the angry Katherine Hepburn-esque narration that never changes from a mildly hysterical snarl, you might enjoy this, although, as with a lot of Frieda McFadden heroines, they are incredibly annoying because of the ridiculous decisions they make. Nevertheless, I made it to the end because it was an interesting premis, just failed to fully deliver.

She always keeps me guessing until the very end, this was a good one! Narrator pretty obnoxious but still a great book.

Aggressive annunciation makes it seem like characters are yelling. As usual, not too much happens and the twist is at the end.

Did not expect the twist. Frida always kept me curious and wondering with her words. It is a great read.

This book was another great read that leaves you guessing. The narration did make it a struggle but it gets better as the book moves along. Glad I kept going it’s now up their with my top fav Frieda books.

I liked this book. As always, Freida McFadden is amazing, but the ending wasn’t the greatest I’ve read.

The book was good but the narrator, Shaina Summerville needs training. Her character voices are inconsistant and, to be honest, bland, boring, and annoying. It really took from the enjoyment of the book.

I did like the book. I did have to get used to the narrator. I’m so surprised that I actually knew who it was! Yay me!

Kept you guessing until the very end- which is what you want in a thriller! Good story & characters. Appreciated the prologue.
(Only criticism was the narrator’s whiny voice! Super irritating especially when she would use inflection for emphasis.)

The story line was ok. For the main character being a surgeon she made some really stupid choices. The narrator voice was awful. Ava e yourself the time and skip this one.

Like everyone else I wasn’t a fan of the narrator. I stoped listening at like chapter 10 and just read it my self and it was amazing. The end was a complete twist that I didn’t see coming at all with the killer. The prologue was a twist too.

Narrator is annoying. It’s a good storyline but her voice is screeching and too breathy. I’m gonna finish because I want to know the end but I will not listen to anymore with that narrator.

4 to 5 star story - as many others have said the narrator is awful to listen to so would suggest trying to find another audio version or just reading the physical book.

Nora is a thriving surgeon, her father imprisoned for his heinous crimes, and her dark secret safely concealed. However, Nora's carefully built world shatters when one of her young patients meets a gruesome fate, mirroring her father's signature style. Someone out there is aware of her haunting past, and they're determined to frame her for this unimaginable crime.

This is my second Freida McFadden book, and it was just as I expected. It's the perfect "popcorn thriller", that keeps you engaged and on the edge of your seat until the very end. Will be reading more of her books. Thank you Netgalley, Freida McFadden, and Poisoned Pen Press for providing me with an ARC.

Love it!!!!! Sooooo good!! It definitely had me second-guessing myself and then the twist, and I was actually wrong! I love when I am wrong and when I find out I was right. Freida's books are my new favorite!!!

The story gets a 3 or 3.5, but the narrator absolutely ruined the audiobook version. She was horrible. Her voice was grating, especially when she attempted male voices. It just sounded like she was trying too hard, and it was pretty irritating to listen to. I think it made the main character/narrator more unlikeable than I otherwise would have thought if there had been a different narrator or I had read a print copy.
