About this audiobook

From bestselling sapphic romance author, Eliza Lentzski, a story about taking chances and love after loss.

At this stage in her life, June St. Clare never imagined she'd be starting all over again-a new job, a new city, a new love? Looking for a fresh start after tragedy, June finds herself the unexpected owner of Lark Estates-a micro winery in the heart of Napa Valley. There, June is determined to learn the business and do her best, even if she's convinced that her assistant winemaker, the beautiful but elusive Lucia Santiago, wants to see her fail.

Lucia Santiago grew up on vineyards, almost like a grapevine herself, working her way up from cellar rat to assistant winemaker. When the property where she works is suddenly sold to a woman with no prior experience, she can't help but feel resentful of the winery's lovely but inexperienced new owner. It's too bad June's helplessness is almost endearing, stirring up emotions Lucia didn't quite expect.

Don't miss Sour Grapes-a slow-burn sapphic romance from Eliza Lentzski.

For me, one of the themes in Sour Grapes is about the fallout from life partners failing to be equal decision makers, and to protect each other’s future. Without that surviving partners can be vulnerable to the undeserving’s greed. Needless to say, I didn’t like Alex, the deceased partner, of the MC, June. A second theme concerns the exploitation of farm workers who create the wealth, but have an unequal share in it’s distribution.

    Great until it wasn't anymore
I listened to the audiobook. The narrator was new to me but I found her narration very good. I can't judge the writing since I didn't read the book, but I did notice some things that didn't sound quite right, whether they were the narrator's fault or the author's fault, I can't say. I really liked the story until I didn't. It was going along great and I liked the characters and their complicated relationship and interactions. Then came the conflict. That was strange, and never fully explained. Why and how did it happen? And I didn't buy into the reason for it. I also didn't feel like June had lost the love of her life. At times, that emotion would pop up, but it was quickly gone. June seemed to have much more emotion regarding the vineyard and getting used to it than to her lost relationship. I get all the relationship drama with June and Lucia, but my problems concern the other conflicts. Not only did they seem manufactured, but they weren't developed. I'm still not sure what happened and why. And where's Rolando at the end? My frustration with the last part of the book kind of overshadowed my enjoyment of the rest of the book! I really liked learning about the vineyard and wines, so if that's interesting to you, read this book. Otherwise, maybe skip it unless you like meaningless drama.
