From New York Times bestselling author David Elliot Cohen comes this unforgettable dog tale and story of a cross-country road trip. The Wrong Dog is a heartwarming and hilarious memoir of a mischievous dog and the unconditional love he forges with the family who mistakenly adopts him.
There are no bad dogs. Meet Simba II, a playful white Labrador puppy brought home by accident. As he grows into an enormous ninety-pound dog with a huge personality, Simba cements the bond between two families and enriches their lives in countless ways.
A cross-country road trip to remember. When the family moves from San Francisco to New York, the author is charged with the ultimate animal rescue−bringing Simba to the family’s new home. He and his best friend, Erick, load Simba into the back of a station wagon and set out on a 3,300-mile once-in-a-lifetime road trip across America.
An epic journey for dog lovers. With stops at Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace; the Las Vegas Strip; Meteor Crater; the Painted Desert; Cadillac Ranch; Winslow, Arizona; Gallup, New Mexico; Graceland, and other all-American landmarks, this engaging and poignant volume chronicles an epic journey, the unconditional love between one dog and his family, and the vast and benevolent role dogs play in American family life. But most of all, The Wrong Dog shows us how the end of life can sometimes be the richest part of all.
If you’re a dog lover who’s enjoyed books such as Arthur: The Dog who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home, A Dog Called Hope, or No Ordinary Dog, then you’ll love and laugh along with The Wrong Dog.

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a delightful and heartwarming story about traveling across America with a beloved dog. While some reviewers mention little rants and political diatribes in the book, most readers didn't find them offensive or detracting from the overall enjoyment of the story. The book is recommended for those who are blessed with soul mate pets and enjoy heartwarming journeys. However, if you're looking for a book solely focused on dogs without any political commentary, this may not be the best choice.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5If you enjoy a wealthy, liberal, arrogant elitist intermingling a few political diatribes in a book supposedly about a dog but that mostly isn't - this book is for you.
If you're a true dog lover, you won't like this author.
His complete lack of self awareness, coupled with his selfishness and entitlement attitude is breathtaking and not in a good way.
He's supposedly taking a road trip because the dog is in such poor health that it wouldn't survive a flight. So what does the author do? He makes the trip about him. He takes the long way, across the hot desert in August. He ties the dog outside in 95 degree heat and leaves it unattended so he can have a sit down meal. He is seriously aghast that the fine hotels that he is so accustomed to don't accept dogs. He's clearly never traveled with his 14 year old dog and he is much too good for the likes of Super 8. I could go on...
He refers to his kids as his "idiot kids" and doesn't paint the nicest picture of his mother and her "bad death." He refers to the dog as getting ready to "kick the bucket."
His wife is too obsessed with scaling the corporate ladder to care much about her dog, and her actions when she finally sees him again are bizarre.
So, again, if you enjoy wealthy elitists who call your towns "shabby," are clueless about how real Americans live, can't drive in the rain and expect everyone to bow to their wishes and talk a little about a dog - this is your book.2 people found this helpful
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A delightful story about traveling across America with an old dog. He does have little rants in the book about different subjects as another review mentions but I didn’t find them offensive. The story it’s self was worth it to me.
