Everyone knows a couple like Jack and Grace. He has looks and wealth; she has charm and elegance. He’s a dedicated attorney who has never lost a case; she is a flawless homemaker, a masterful gardener and cook, and dotes on her disabled younger sister. Though they are still newlyweds, they seem to have it all. You might not want to like them, but you do. You’re hopelessly charmed by the ease and comfort of their home, by the graciousness of the dinner parties they throw. You’d like to get to know Grace better.
But it’s difficult, because you realize Jack and Grace are inseparable.
Some might call this true love. Others might wonder why Grace never answers the phone. Or why she can never meet for coffee, even though she doesn’t work. How she can cook such elaborate meals but remain so slim. Or why she never seems to take anything with her when she leaves the house, not even a pen. Or why there are such high-security metal shutters on all the downstairs windows.
Some might wonder what’s really going on once the dinner party is over, and the front door has closed.

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a thrilling and captivating read. The storyline keeps their attention, with twists and turns that leave them on the edge. The author's writing style is simple and descriptive, drawing readers in quickly. The narrator of the audiobook does a great job, adding to the overall enjoyment. While some reviewers found the ending to be rushed or predictable, others appreciated the foreshadowing and emotional depth. Overall, this book is highly recommended for fans of domestic thrillers and psychological horror.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It was interesting and an interesting twist but the bad guy was boring. Maybe I am just desensitized but his plan and what he was doing as a “bad guy” was more like a spoiled child just being annoying and fussy. Don’t get me wrong there were some times I was surprised and for someone who does not prefer disturbing twists with blood and guts hanging out everywhere this book is for you. The book was narrated well, I felt her fear and anxiety. The book was fine but if you are looking for something a little more ghoulish this so not for you.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Whoa! What a ride! A terrifying menacing story of a woman who falls in love with the wrong (very wrong) man. This really unnerved me and had me spellbound. I read it in one sitting staying up till 3 am as I just could not put it down. The plot didn't particularly surprise me, as I basically knew what was going to happen but the sheer suspense kept me glued. It is a very frightening scenario, especially as a woman, to read. Cannot wait for the author to write a second book!

- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Pretty unpleasant read. More miserable than suspenseful. Wish I had spent time on something else.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/54 ? Creepy. Slow burn, but still a page turner.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Was a good book, ending was a twist from what I had imagined.
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5wasn’t pleased the entire book until the last sentence but honestly wasnt worth the read
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very good twists, creepy, kept me listening and "on edge", great narration. I really enjoyed it !
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5In the beginning, I was ready to check out because I believed I had clocked this book, but I'm so glad I didn't. The pacing was perfect. It never lost momentum, and the ending completely floored me. 5 stars 10/10 A+
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I have mixed feelings about this book. The main character chose not to see so many red flags that I became annoyed with her. Nevertheless, I'm willing to give Paris' writing one more try.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I loved it! The ending just sends chills through you.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5A psychological horror full of fearful tension! I loved it!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5It’s a great story idea but in a moment it turns a little repetitive and the book it self spoils you the end
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5The ending wasn’t logical but overall the storyline was good enough to keep my attention.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Very similar to The Housemaid by Freida McFadden! It's been a long time since I've been able to read a book all the way through and the ending literally gave me goosebumps! Amazing read!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Good listen but the ending is literal chills. Worth it!
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5So many twists and turns to this plot! I wish there had been a little bit more character background on the antagonist and a little bit more wrap up at the end but once I got a couple chapters in I did not want to stop listening. Absolutely loved the narrator on this one! Her voice was easy to listen to, her characters were clearly different and she was easily understood
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Wow. So good! Finished in One day/sitting please read it’ll have you on the edge the whole time
- Rating: 1 out of 5 stars1/5I am not gonna continue listening. The story for sure is good, but the woman's pace of narrating is way too fast.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was a good, suspenseful book. Liked how the author switched from past to present. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is that an epilogue would have been so nice. To have a full picture of a heartwarming ending after all the torture darkness the whole book.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Not gonna lie... I was expecting a huge plot twist at the end like most thrillers. But this one wasn’t. Just is a good, easy ready that still captivated me. I finished it within two days.. I recommend the audiobook- the narrator does a great job with the inflection in her voice.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5I read the book several months ago and I'm so excited that the audiobook was recently released. The author is a freaking genius. I've read all of her books including the recently released book The Therapist everything she writes is gold. This book is no exception. I loved every second of it. Highly recommend.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It kept my attention throughout the book and I was surprised by the ending.
- Rating: 2 out of 5 stars2/5Very slow especially at the beginning. Not particularly threatening or suspenseful since you aren’t really convinced that the husband is physically abusing the wife and his mental games seem trite to any woman with a bit of backbone. It was 8 hours of my life that I felt I had wasted really. People had built this novel up in the reviews to be so great. Very disappointing.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Pretty predictable, but still a good story line. Felt like a rushed ending
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5This book was awesome!! It was thrilling from the first page to the last page.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Excellent read! For Grace to rise from those depths was cunning and inspirational !
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5The plot was interested but could've certainly been a little more suspenseful seeing how long the book was. As is she could've gotten to the point a lot quicker.
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Preposterous. But I admit I read through to the end!
- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5I found the book interesting but too long and predictable. I skipped about 7 chapters in the middle and felt like I did not miss anything. Also, starting from 1/3 of the book it was kind of obvious how it would end.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5The last two sentences are the best ending of a book I have read/listened to in a very long time...
