In Blade of Secrets, the first audiobook in Tricia Levenseller's exciting new YA fantasy duology, a teenage blacksmith with social anxiety is forced to go on the run to protect the world from the most powerful magical sword she's ever made.
Eighteen-year-old Ziva prefers metal to people. She spends her days tucked away in her forge, safe from society and the anxiety it causes her, using her magical gift to craft unique weapons imbued with power.
Then Ziva receives a commission from a powerful warlord, and the result is a sword capable of stealing its victims secrets. A sword that can cut far deeper than the length of its blade. A sword with the strength to topple kingdoms. When Ziva learns of the warlord’s intentions to use the weapon to enslave all the world under her rule, she takes her sister and flees.
Joined by a distractingly handsome mercenary and a young scholar with extensive knowledge of the world’s known magics, Ziva and her sister set out on a quest to keep the sword safe until they can find a worthy wielder or a way to destroy it entirely.

What our readers think
Readers find this title to be a page-turner with entertaining characters. The story is enjoyable, although it starts off slow. The bond between the characters is well-developed, and there are good action scenes. However, some readers found the angst and pining to be borderline annoying. Overall, the book explores themes of family, love, trust, and secrets. While some readers were disappointed with the ending, many still enjoyed the book and are looking forward to the next installment.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5It was so quick and easy to listen to it. I enjoyed the experience and the story so much! I would love if there is a sequel that follows the history of the sword. Please please please, make that a thing? The ending had me laughing at myself because I turned into a clown.
I saw a lot of other people's thoughts as they dissected the book to dust, but honestly I don't think it was meant to be taken that seriously. It was an enjoyable read and that's all that matters.1 person found this helpful
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5As expected from Tricia Levenseller, she really knows how to weave the complicated nature of being a kick-ass lady! Love it! Can't wait for the next book!
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5A fun read. I had a good time reading this although it was a bit slow at first. I really do like Ziva and Temra and the bond they have. I do think that Ziva leaned on and hid behind Temra a bit too much but that got better by the end. I love me some Kellen and his back story (chef's kiss!)
There were some good action scenes, lots of angst abd pining which became borderline annoying if I'm honest.
At it's heart the story is about family (the one you are born to and the ones you make), love, trust and (of course) secrets. There's plenty to like and enjoy here and honestly I was all good until the end ... and then I was mad. I know this is the first book but I can't say for sure if I'll be picking up the second. I'm not that invested in this story. The narrator was very good and pulled me along when things got slow. There were a couple of twists that totally took me by surprise so the rating is slightly higher for that - Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Blade of Secrets is a page-turner until the very end it is so entertaining you are sure to get lost with these wonderful characters. Another book by Tricia Levenseller that I absolutely adored she knows how to create intriguing yet relatable characters who you can't help but root for and enjoy.
