What a fantastic memoir! I loved hearing of Patrick Stewart’s “Victorian” childhood and the decades since. As a child of the ‘80s and early ‘90s I was familiar with Star Trek TNG and my brother is a huge ST fan so every visit to see him includes some sort of ST viewing or memorabilia. But Stewart is a great storyteller in general and I adored his recounting of his adventures, great and small, humbly told even if a huge rite of passage such as his knighting. This book is a beautiful read (listen) and I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good memoir, though any Stewart fan will enjoy it all the more.

I enjoyed learning about his humble upbringing, however a good majority of it is dedicated to theater which I wasn't as much interested in. He also lost me when he discussed how he cheated on two different wife's and broke up his family. I guess it's not "until death do us part" for pikard!

Such a wonderful book! How can somebody give it less than 5 stars? Sir Patrick Stewart is simply flooding us with kindness while sharing such wonderful tales from his youth. I enjoyed every minute of it!

I enjoyed this book very much! It warmed my heart to hear the stories of Patrick Stewart’s youth and his striving to pursue his dreams. His skill as an actor and the majesty of his voice has brought hours of enjoyment to me for decades now and it was pleasing to listen to him reminiscing about his life and career.

The openness with which he discusses his life choices, his infidelities and their consequences to his family relationships are instructive and cautionary as well as disappointing. I was also jolted at times to hear him utter profanities that diminish his otherwise exemplary use of the English language. Surely a man with his skill and intellect can find other words to express himself powerfully without resorting to vulgarity.

All of that doesn’t prevent me from admiring his accomplishments and enjoying his skill as a wonderful actor. I want to thank Sir Patrick for this glimpse into his remarkable life and career.

Only meeting him in person could top this.

This book fleeted thru my ears like a buterfly that lives only a day, no matter the true length. I enjoyed very much the soft voice of Sir Patrick Stewart and am in awe at his life's experiance. Well written, witty, comforting, exiting - this one goes right at the top of the favorite biographies I have listened so far. Well done. I am glad I listened to it, but sad it is over. The book I mean. Hope to see Sir Patric in a production or 2 or 3, yet...

As someone who grew up with Star Trek: The Next Generation & the X-Men movies, it was such a joy reading this. Having the audiobook as read by Patrick Stewart himself. That’s a bigger treat right there.

A delightful tale of a young man's journey into a world he could never imagine. Patrick Stewart tells his story warts and all. His humor and self deprecation show you he has put his ego on the shelf. From humble Yorkshire beginnings to the Hollywood machine, I enjoyed the ride so much. I especially appreciate the story about Cheryl near the end-so sweet. Thank you, Patrick, for sharing your life, and doing so in your own beautiful voice.
